The Laboratory of Marine Power Plant and Automation is affiliated to the Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineerind, School of Naval Architecture, Ocean & Civil Engineering, Shanghai Jiaotong University. Its main work is the construction and development of talents cultivation and scientific research of the secondary discipline of Marine Engineering. The history of The Laboratory of Marine Power Plant and Automation can be traced back to source of the discipline of marine engineering in China. 

The lab is now located in the northeast corner of Minhang Campus, Shanghai, near the Magnolia Building. The laboratory has world-class optical test and experiment equipment for spray and combustion. It has several advanced test equipments such as high-speed camera, ICCD camera, pulse laser, dye laser and spectrometer. It has built world-advanced advanced test benches such as fixed volume combustion bomb and fast compression expander.

 At the same time, single-cylinder (variable cylinder bore) test bench, multi-cylinder machine test bench, High Performance Computing Laboratory, Hydrogen fuel cell laboratory and so on are under construction.
