In December 2019, the establishment of Shanghai Key Laboratory for Digital Maintenance of Buildings and Infrastructure in Shanghai Jiao Tong University was officially approved by Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality. The launch ceremony of the laboratory was held on 18th November 2020. The laboratory plays a prominent role in research innovations for the discipline of Civil Engineering.
The laboratory focuses on resolving important problems in the digital construction and management of public buildings and infrastructure, and carry out scientific studies in four key research areas, (1) digital reconstruction theory and technology of public buildings and infrastructure, (2) safety operation and maintenance theory and intelligent monitoring technology of public buildings and infrastructure, (3) mechanisms and methods of personnel risk management and safe evacuation in public space of densely populated cities, and (4) rapid management of risks and improvement of safety performance for public buildings and infrastructure. The laboratory will integrate and upgrade the existing relevant research work and facilities, and develop a digital operation and maintenance management platform for urban public buildings and infrastructure. After two years of establishment, it is planned to build a dedicated laboratory area of 4000 m2, equipped with advanced facilities and instruments, and become a domestic First-Class and internationally renowned research laboratory in Civil Engineering maintenance.
