At the beginning of 2019, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) actively responded to the national call and signed strategic cooperation agreements with Hainan Province and Sanya City respectively. Based on the most outstanding majors such as Ocean Engineering, the SJTU Yazhou Bay Institute of Deepsea Science and Technology (SJTU IODST) was officially established in August, 2019. At present, there are nearly 40 employees in SJTU IODST, including 8 professors, 13 associate professors, 10 lecturers, and several engineering and administrative personnel. The Institute will give full play to the advantages of SJTU in education, scientific research and service industry in the field of deep-sea science and technology, actively align with the national strategy, support the improvement of national deep-sea science and technology strength, boost the development of Hainan Free Trade Port, and serve the implementation of Sanya's development plan for the frontier of deep-sea science and technology.

        On June 18, 2019, Sanya Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City University Town Deep-sea Science and Technology Innovation Public Platform Project Construction Headquarters, and SJTU IODST held the launching ceremony. It will promote the construction of "one Port, three cities and one Base" (Nanshan Port, Deep-sea Science and Technology City, Nanfan Science and Technology City and University City, as well as the transfer base for the introduction of plant and animal germplasm resources around the world) in Sanya to facilitate the high-quality development of the city.

        University town, as one of the most important "jigsaw" of Sanya Yazhou Bay Science and technology City, is the key link of "industry-university-research" development of science and technology city. SJTU IODST held the launching ceremony, determined that SJTU will lead the organization of relevant university forces in the field of deep-sea science and technology, with the advantages of education and scientific research to help the development of Hainan, planning and designing the construction scheme of deep-sea science and technology public platform. The two sides will give full play to the all-round advantages of SJTU and jointly build a public platform for deep-sea science and technology innovation in Sanya Yazhou Bay Science and Technology City University Town.

        SJTU has always been in regard to the development of ocean has good research infrastructure and world-class research, Shanghai institute of personnel in the organization to the Sanya to carry out the research work, recruiting talents at home and abroad to research institute, formed a certain scale of talent team and research base, scale for the south China sea Marine research.

        The Institute will give full play to the advantages of SJTU in education, scientific research and service industry in the field of deep-sea science and technology, actively align with the national strategy, support the regional development of Hainan, and serve the implementation of Sanya's development plan for the frontier of deep-sea science and technology.

        Institute focusing on deep sea overloading operation equipment, equipment, deep-sea exploration and development of new energy equipment, Marine intelligent unmanned equipment operation monitoring and security, the deep sea, deep sea platform areas such as communications and navigation through undertaking national and provincial key research projects, in the deep sea science and technology achievements, actively create provincial key laboratory and state key laboratory.
