Transportation Engineering

        The department of  Transportation Engineering was initially established as Navigation Major at Shanghai High Industrial School, which was the predecessor of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, of Postal Ministry in the Late Qing in 1909 as one of the pioneers of Chinese modern higher maritime education. Established in 1995, the Department of International Shipping offers Bachelor Program in Transportation (International Shipping and Logistics), and Master Program in Transportation Engineering, as well as  Programs of Engineering Master major in Logistics Engineering, Transportation Engineering and Project Management, respectively.

        Now there are altogether 16 faculty and staff members in the Department of International Shipping, including 3 professors, 3 associate professors, 1 scholar under the Recruitment Program of Global Experts, I scholar under the Recruitment Program of Global Young Experts, and 1 Cheung Kong Scholar.

        The main research fields of the Department include Shipping and Logistics Management, Transportation Planning and Management, Transportation Safety, Construction and Management of Transportation Infrastructure. Those disciplines aim to further develop integrated transportation with international shipping and logistics as highlights. Besides, the Department emphasizes on developing the innovative talent cultivation system, and has started transforming undergraduate and post-graduate programs in English. A large number of highly qualified technical and management professionals have been trained for companies of shipping, logistics and transportation, as well as government and research institutions.
