On Jan.9th,2015, Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China published a list of National Science and Technology Progress Award. HYSY-981 deepwater drilling platform won the Special Award in the National Science and Technology Progress Award.

HYSY-981 is the sixth generation of deepwater oil semi-submersible drilling platform built by China. It is invested by China National Offshore Oil Corporation and SJTU works as one of the main research institutions. The platform has changed the history of oil drilling in the South Sea of China, which mains China’s deepwater oil and gas exploration, large marine equipment built come to the international advanced level.
