In August 2014, Collaborative Innovation Center for Advanced Ship and Deep-Sea Exploration was successfully approved by Chinese Universities innovation ability development program.

Collaborative Innovation Center for Advanced Ship and Deep-Sea Exploration unites SJTU, China State Shipbuilding Corporation, China National Offshore Oil Corporation, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Tianjin University, Dalian University of Technology, China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation 702 Research Center, China Classification Society together, to serve the needs of Marine potestatem and lead the ship and deep-sea technology. The partners will combine the talent, resource and advantages of each other, commit to research of Advanced Ship and Deep-Sea Exploration.

In August 2014, Collaborative Innovation Center for Advanced Ship and Deep-Sea Exploration became the second batch of Collaborative Innovation Center approved by the Chinese government.
