School of Ocean and Civil Engineering Held a Psychology Lecture for International Students

In order to help international students pay more attention to mental health and improve cross-cultural adaptability, the school of OCE held a psychology lecture for international students with the theme of "Create a Better Life" in Room A1006 Mulan Building on the afternoon of November 28, 2022 . Ms. Jing Xue, a consultant from the Psychological Counseling Center, was invited give a lecture in this event.

Ms. Xue first introduced the theme and significance of the lecture in plain language. Xue Jing said that when new students come to China, they will involuntarily feel pressure in the face of the unfamiliar cultural environment, and they will go through four periods of cross-cultural adaptation: the honeymoon period, the frustration period, the recovery period and the adaptation period. Xue Jing said that in order to form a cross-cultural identity, students should continuously adjust themselves and gradually adapt to the new way of life.

Xue Jing explained how to create and embrace a better life with a positive attitude. She said the students can start with a good lifestyle, make friends and always maintain a positive and healthy mental environment.

Finally, Xue Jing refined the theme with two psychological methods: positive thinking and growth thinking. She said that we can accept and face new things and challenges with an open mind, and draw useful feedback from these challenges, so as to make ourselves grow continuously.

This lecture focused on the mental health of the international students concerned, could help students to cope with cultural differences and mental health problems with a correct attitude, and deepen the understanding and application of mental health education knowledge.
