To thoroughly implement the "three-in-one" deployment of education, science and technology, and talent development set forth at the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, and to solidly advance the implementation and effectiveness of the Engineering Master's and Doctoral Training Reform Program, on July 3, Chen Jinjian, Vice Dean of the School of Ocean and Civil Engineering (OCE) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), led a group of 15 faculty members and students to the Shanghai Survey, Design and Research Institute Co., Ltd. of China Three Gorges Corporation (hereinafter referred to as "Three Gorges Shanghai Institute") to attend the 2026 Enterprise Open Day for the Engineering Master's and Doctoral Training Program. Cao Li, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Three Gorges Shanghai Institute and Chairperson of the Labor Union, Hua Haochen,Vice Dean of the School of Elite Engineers at Hohai University, representatives of enterprise mentors, and representatives of faculty, students, and alumni from Hohai University and SJTU attended the event.

The delegation first visited the Enterprise Development Exhibition Hall and the Intelligent Meteorological Laboratory of Three Gorges Shanghai Institute, gaining an in-depth understanding of its historical development and core technological achievements, and experiencing firsthand the green and intelligent development trends of the industry. The guide systematically introduced the comprehensive industrial chain layout of China Three Gorges Corporation and the development journey of the Shanghai Institute over more than 70 years in the fields of water conservancy and hydropower, basin ecological governance, offshore renewable energy, and comprehensive marine survey equipment. The tour highlighted landmark research achievements, including the floating offshore wind turbines "Three Gorges Leading" and "Three Gorges Pioneer," the digital twin platform for Yangtze River protection, and underwater intelligent detection equipment.

Following the tour, a symposium and exchange session was held between the university and the enterprise. In her address, Cao Li provided a detailed introduction to the distinctive explorations and practical achievements of Three Gorges Shanghai Institute in the joint cultivation of engineering master's and doctoral students. She expressed the hope that this open day would serve as a bridge to continually broaden the scope of university-enterprise cooperation, explore new pathways for industry-education integration, and jointly build a highland for cultivating outstanding engineering talent.
On behalf of OCE, Chen Jinjian expressed his gratitude to Three Gorges Shanghai Institute for its longstanding support in areas such as joint university-enterprise talent cultivation, collaborative research projects, and graduate employment. He noted that the School has established long-term joint training mechanisms with multiple state-owned enterprises, and that the retention rate of the first cohort of graduates from the Engineering Master's and Doctoral Training Reform Program who remained employed at their partner enterprises exceeds 50%. He expressed his anticipation for continued deepening of resource sharing and mutual empowerment between the university and enterprises.

Subsequently, Zhang Jiuding, Director of the Human Resources Department of Three Gorges Shanghai Institute, presented on the policies, training system, and compensation and benefits related to the Engineering Master's and Doctoral Training Program. Fan Ke, an alumnus representative from Hohai University, delivered a specialized presentation titled "Technological Innovation and Engineering Practice of Floating Offshore Wind Power."
During the exchange session, Fang Ning, an SJTU alumnus and Deputy Director of the Yangtze River Ecological Environment Engineering Research Center (Shanghai), and Fan Jinyu, an assistant professional specialist at the New Energy Civil Engineering Construction Design Institute, shared insights drawn from their career journeys on the transition from campus to the frontlines of engineering. Enterprise mentor Li Jie shared his reflections on mentoring practices and collaborative training experiences. Li Guolin, a master's student from OCE enrolled in the training program, shared his understanding of China Three Gorges Corporation and expressed his anticipation for the upcoming enterprise practice.
This open day event further strengthened the ties between the university and the enterprise, facilitated talent matchmaking channels, and allowed faculty and students to experience the technological appeal of "national major undertakings" through an immersive experience. Drawing inspiration from the dedication of frontline research teams, the event laid a solid foundation for deepening the joint cultivation of engineering master's and doctoral students and building a long-term mechanism for the integration of industry, academia, research, and application.

Since the launch of the Engineering Master's and Doctoral Training Reform Program in 2022, OCE has jointly cultivated nearly 200 graduate students in collaboration with eight organizations, including China State Shipbuilding Corporation, China Communications Construction Group, China National Offshore Oil Corporation, China COSCO Shipping, Hanjiang National Laboratory, China Three Gorges Corporation, Shanghai Electric Group, and Shanghai Construction Group. Together with these enterprises, the School has established a sound mechanism for the selection, cultivation, retention, and utilization of outstanding engineering talent. Over the past three years, more than 10 graduates from the School have joined China Three Gorges Corporation. Looking ahead, OCE will continue to attract outstanding students to participate in the training program, enhance the effectiveness of enterprise practice, and monitor the career development of graduates who remain at partner enterprises. The School remains committed to ensuring the sustained and steady progress of the program, cultivating more outstanding engineering talent who are deeply rooted in the frontlines and driven by innovation, to serve the urgent needs of the nation and the industry.
