"Ocean Dreams" -2026 International Summer School on Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering and Mechanics

1. Program Overview

The "Ocean Dreams" -2026 International Summer School on Ocean Engineering and Mechanics is organized by the School of Ocean & Civil Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The program is characterized by its international focus, cutting-edge content, and interdisciplinary approach, relying on high-quality faculty and research resources from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and its partner institutions. It provides a platform for academic exchange and collaboration for experts, scholars, and students from both domestic and international institutions. The summer school aims to cultivate interdisciplinary talents and promote international collaboration. This year's program will be held at Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s Minhang campus from August 2 to August 15, 2026.

This program has been successfully held 18 times, attracting over a thousand master's and senior undergraduate students from China, the US, South Korea, Japan, India, Pakistan, the UK, Vietnam, Australia, Iran, and other countries. Renowned scholars from the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Norway, Japan, and more have participated, offering lectures and leading various academic and cultural activities.

2. Summer School Date and Venue

Dates: August 2 - August 15, 2026

Venue: Minhang Campus, Shanghai Jiao Tong University

3. Eligibility

(1) Eligibility: Master's and PhD students, and senior undergraduates (3rd year

and above) from disciplines including Marine and Ocean Engineering, Mechanics, Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, and related fields, worldwide.

(2) Enrollment: Around 80 participants will be selected based on submitted documents by an expert committee.

4. Summer School Activities

(1) Academic Lectures: Renowned experts and scholars will deliver lectures on the latest research and trends in marine new energy, intelligent ships, deep-sea exploration, and polar engineering. Topics will cover areas like structural mechanics, hydrodynamics, experimental and testing methods, and artificial intelligence.

(2) Site Visits: Participants will visit Shanghai Jiao Tong University campus, museums, the National Key Laboratory of Ocean Engineering, and Polar Research Institute of China.

(3) Student Seminars: Students will be divided into research groups to discuss a specific topic and present their findings. The "Best Team Award" will be given by an expert panel.

(4) Experimental Courses: Marine engineering and mechanics experiments will be conducted in groups, involving experimental design, hands-on operation, data collection, and data processing.

(5) Poster Presentations: Each participant will create and present a poster related to their current research. An expert panel will select the "Excellent Poster Award."

(6) Cultural Exploration: Students will visit historical landmarks in Shanghai, the Maritime Museum, and experience the charm of Chinese culture.

5. Fees and Scholarships

(1) Program Fees: Course materials and organized visits are covered by the program. Participants bear their travel, accommodation (approx. RMB 150/day/person, twin room), and meals. Accommodation will be arranged by the program.

(2) Scholarship:Offered to encourage participation. Covers more than 30% of applicants. Cannot be combined with other scholarships.

Selection and Requirement:

  • Awards are determined by an expert panel and announced with admission offers.
